LIGERA VENTAJA ( EH.NET ARCHIVES )
________________________________________

Elusive-Heaven was purchased sometime in November of 2001, when I lost my former domain (ProjectMariko.net). It was launched in January 2002, and has been my online home since. "Elusive Heaven" was the name of my personal site (even before PMnet's existence) and later became my weblog name. It has a certain sentimental meaning to me as well; my domain name was inspired by the song "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" by The Philosopher Kings. Unfortunately, I lost all my previous collective/domain layouts and only have the ones from EHnet. Some of them were kind of crappy, but I still wish I had them kicking around. :(

January 2002 (feat. Yuda of Samurai Shodown)

I liked the colours of the layout, grey and violet are always a winning combination. I scanned in the image of Yuda from a SNK artwork book I had, and I chose this scan since Yuda had this neat intense glare thing going on, which I thought would make a nice focal point. Looking back at it now though, it seems kind of plain. And I don't like how the buttons on the left don't quite go with the grey/violet palette. It's very "mreh" to me. Which is to say that it did its job, but I don't really love the layout :T I'm so picky. This was EHnet's debut layout, so I think I was just impatient to get the domain open already, hehe.

February 2002 (feat. Utena & Touga of Shoujo Kakumei Utena)

I really love pink. It's a fun colour to work with, and an obvious choice for the month of love. I was really quite pleased with the flow of it all -- the text and link button sections compliment each other, and staring at Touga is like never a bad thing! There's some rollovers that you can't see in the navigation, but they were cute and made the hearts beside them change colours. I was such a rollover whore back then... er well I guess I still am, actually. :D It's such an easy way to give personality to your layout! My only real nitpick here is that the layout sort of cuts off and doesn't meld into the background too well. Just a minor nitpick.

April 2002 (feat. Snoopy & Charlie Brown of Peanuts)

EEEEE I LOVE THIS LAYOUT! ♥♥♥! Even after all these years, this is really one of my favourite layouts. I've always loved the Peanuts comic strip and once I saw this image, it HAD to become a layout. My favourite thing about this layout is that when you moused over the paw prints on the left side, it made Charlie Brown's text bubble say different things, navigation related. It was just so amusing to me!

July 2002 (feat. Spike Spiegel of Cowboy Bebop)

Another layout that I really loved. That Spike image was just screaming to be made into a layout. My favourite part has to be the text area, which reminds me of frosted glass. Unfotunately, it was very cramped and the links below were actually images (and not text links), so it was hard to update (not that I opened any new sites then, just that if I did it'd be a pain to fix...). But still, it's a solid layout and among my favourites.

February 2003 (feat. Tsukino Usagi of Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon)

I did this Sailormoon themed layout for a SScom layout marathon, and secretly I was wanting to make a Sailormoon layout anyway, so that was good timing. :D I love this scan of Usagi, since Takeuchi Naoko always draws such pretty, flowing hair (though I totally hated how she drew feet!). I didn't think peach and turqouise would actually work, but it strangely did. As usual, the links are rollovers which made the stars beside them do stuff. I can't remember exactly, but I think I put an inside drop shadow on it and it looks like a depressed star button when you mouse over. However, my big nitpick here is the lack of a defined text area, as well as the fact that it was cramped. But still, I liked this layout. I think it's Naoko's art. :)

May 2003 (feat. Rakka of Haibane Renmei)

Okay, I had a number of issues with this layout -- the biggest being that I was super lazy and made this into a popup layout. I think this is the only time I've ever done something so lazily evil, as my experiment with this layout made me never want to do it again. You can also see that I didn't edit out the crease of the album art, which totally cuts into the focal point, which is the beautiful image of Rakka. I'm generally happy with the other things I did to the layout though; I like the earth tones and I like how the film reel things turned out. You can't really see it, but there's little feathers beside the navigation, which light up when you mouseover. Oh laziness. I bite my thumb at thee. :(

July 2003 (feat. Takashiro Chizuna of Hitsuji No Uta )

I'm going to say right out that I have no idea what I was thinking when I was working on this layout. I like the autumn colours, but the flow of the layout seems so rushed and sloppy. Not much of a text area either, but at least it was easy to navigate. And I really did like that scan of Chizuna. I enjoyed the art of that series in general, and used several scans in various layouts. This layout is sort of hit-and-miss for me. I'll just say "mreh" and move on, hehe.

November 2003 (feat. random scanned image )

Happy second birthday to EHnet! I used a really bold background in this layout and found that I really liked the effect, so from here on out I think was the start of my love affair with busy backgrounds. I just used a random scan from one of my artbooks and overall I was pretty happy with how it all turned out. I used a DHTML script for the text area -- the two arrows with the ribbons there were used for scrolling the text up and down. I don't normally use scripts like that, but I couldn't quite make a text area that I liked, so I took the lazy route. I really love the litte ribbons on the up/down arrows; I kinda just threw them together and was surprised how cute they looked.

November 2004 (feat. random scanned image)

I love the background texture. Happy third birthday to EHnet! Sadly, it took a whole year until I put up this layout. I scanned in this image from one of my random artbooks and went again with a grey and violet colour theme. Even though I like the layout, there's nothing really outstanding about it -- other than the background. And not a single rollover anywhere!

September 2005 (feat.Tetsuya & Luna of Casshern)

And now the neglect is in full force. Notice how my domain updates are now like... one layout a year. YEESH! After watching Casshern (and totally loving the movie), I made this layout and I'm generally happy with it. You don't see it on the screenshot but the "stars" are actually animated .gifs and each one pulses at a different speed, to create a "sparkling" effect. I thought it was sort of neat, and added some impact to the image of Tetsuya cradling Luna. I'm kind of iffy about the colours. I like olive green and have used it a few times in layouts, but overall I felt that the layout was too dark and hard to read. Mreh. Awesome movie though!

January 2007 (feat.Alfina of Grandia III)

I REALLY love how that background turned out -- it's lush and vibrant and the gradient from blue to green is such a rich colour. I had been playing Grandia III almost non-stop at the time and the sheer awesomeness of the game inspired me to make a layout. I can't really find anything to nitpick here. You don't see it, but the text area is actually generated with layers; so when you click on the left navigation, it reveals the text layer, thus making it both neat and practical, since I didn't have to worry about text area size, because I could just hide the silly thing. I'm really happy with this layout, it hits all the spots that I want to hit when I make a layout. :D
