      Wondering how the story begins? DiGi Charat has several seasons, but there's one basic plotline that holds through most of the assorted DiGi Charat series: Dejiko comes to Earth, along with Gema and Puchiko, in order to become a famous idol/actress. The DiGi Charat TV series aired in 1999, and that's where all this begins. Here is the storyline of the first episode, that pretty much sets up the entire series:

      One day, a strange cat-shaped spaceship crash-lands on Earth. DiGi Charat (aka: Dejiko), Petit Charat (aka: Puchiko), and Gema emerge from the spaceship, and realize that they have landed in the Akihabara District of Tokyo. Dejiko claims that she has come to Akihabara to become a great idol and actress. She's so confident, that she can imagine the crowds calling her name. But Dejiko was so caught up in her dream of being famous that she neglected to plan ahead. All three newcomers suddenly realized that they were stuck in Tokyo without food or lodging. Thinking that the situation was hopeless, a stranger offers to help out Dejiko, Puchiko, a Gema by letting them stay at his store. "The Manager" (as he's called) owns a store called "Gamers", which sells anime related merchandise. Dejiko is overjoyed that The Manager will let them use the room above the store -- but Gema felt that living in the room for free was wrong, so The Manager offers to give them jobs at Gamers.

      Dejiko and Puchiko are a huge success with the customers at Gamers (due to their overall cuteness), and draw in a number of fanboy customers. As the series progresses, more characters appear at Gamers to add to the chaos. Will Dejiko make it as an idol, or will her bad temper reduce Gamers to a pile of smouldering rubble?

      (Note: Of course, there's exceptions. DiGi Charat Panyo Panyo has a different storyline and acts as a "prequel" to the actual TV series. The Leave It To Piyoko! OAV series is focused on Piyoko and the Black Gema Gema Dan. I have yet to see DiGi Charat Nyo, so no commentary on that. Check the episode guide for more information.)
